Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was born on 21, September, 1909, at Nkroful. was the first President and Prime Minister of Ghana. He is the figure who won political independence for Ghana on March 6, 1957. Kwame was the only child of her mother although his father had many wives and children. Nkrumah always express a great love and respect for his mother, Elizabeth Nyaniba. During his studies he had always remain the top student in his class. History and psychology were among his favourite subjects.
On July 1, 1960 Ghana became a republic and Nkrumah was made the first President.
