Watt, James Scottish inventor was born in 1736. The well known term "watt" the unit of electric power is named for him. He got a good command on steam engines. James was the man who perfected the steam engines. He owned a business of manufacturing engines. His achievements includes improving the rotary engine and making new type and powerful steam engines.
The word used even today to measure the power of an engine "horsepower" was coined by James Watt. James invented a new method of measuring distances by telescope, a device for copying letters, he made improvements in the oil lamp, a steam mangle and a machine for copying sculptures, which adds him among the top ranking significant figures in the history of inventions and technology.

Watt died in 1819. In his remembrance many of his statues are placed in different universities, among those one at the James Watt College building marks the site of his birthplace.
